About Us

Abingdon Writers are a friendly and supportive writers' group based in Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom.

We were founded by Gabrielle Aquilina, Liah Thorley Annabelle Jones and David Charles in 2009, following an Oxford Writers Group event. The OWG had no available places and a long waiting list, but suggested that if anyone was interested in creating their own group, they should go for it! Gabrielle, Liah, Annabelle and David did just that, taking the group from just three to eighteen members and a waiting list of their own within the first year!

Abingdon Writers meet twice a month to listen to and critique our members' fiction and poetry. The group's interests run from children's books and young adult, historical fiction, contemporary and literary fiction, short stories and poetry so our meetings are always varied and entertaining.

The Abingdon Writers' members are all at various stages in their writing but one thing we have in common is a desire to be published! We do, however, have some published members within the group - traditionally published in fiction and non-fiction, self-published, journalists, online travel writing and a professional ghost writer!
